Temple of Hercules Victor

This is one of the first temples that was dedicated to Hercules.  It was built sometime around the 2nd C. BC.  For a while, many people believed that it was dedicated to Vesta because the associated a round temple with a female until they discovered that some of the round temples in Greece were also dedicated to male gods.

In the Middle Ages, the interior columns were filled in and the temple was converted into a church.
